Six-week closure of Ambernath police pump inconveniences motorists

Ambernath: A police welfare petrol pump behind Ambernath West Police Station has remained shut for nearly six weeks after a petroleum company stopped fuel supplies over pending dues of around Rs 27 lakh, inconveniencing motorists who regularly used the facility.

Located on the Kalyan-Karjat State Highway near the municipal corporation office, market and railway station, the pump had become a preferred refuelling point for motorists because of its convenient location and service.

According to sources, the outstanding amount includes unpaid fuel bills for police station vehicles. With the dues unsettled, the petroleum company stopped supplies, forcing the pump to suspend operations. Salaries of staff have also reportedly been delayed, adding to the financial difficulties faced by the Police Welfare organisation managing the facility.

The prolonged closure has led to speculation among residents about whether the pump will reopen. Motorists have also raised concerns over the continued shutdown of a facility located on a busy highway stretch connecting Ambernath with Kalyan and Karjat.

Police Sub-Inspector Manish Bagul, who manages the pump, said efforts were underway to resume operations.

“Efforts are underway by the organisation to restart the pump. The facility had gained customers’ trust because of its quality service. We expect the issue to be resolved in the coming days and hope to reopen it soon,” Bagul said.

Motorists are now awaiting the facility’s reopening as the closure continues to affect access to fuel along the busy route.
