Ulhasnagar: The long-pending issue of deploying doctors and teaching staff from Ambernath Medical College at Ulhasnagar Central Hospital has finally been resolved. Following intervention by former MLA Pappu Kalani, 14 specialist faculty members and nearly 100 intern doctors are expected to join the hospital within a week.

The move is likely to strengthen medical services at the Central Hospital and provide patients from Ulhasnagar and surrounding areas access to specialised and advanced treatment.

Although Ambernath Medical College received approval based on the bed capacity of Ulhasnagar Central Hospital, its doctors had earlier been serving at Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan. Health Committee Chairman Savita Torne and Shivaji Ragde raised the issue, following which Kalani held discussions with MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, Medical College Dean Dr Sanjay Verma, and District Surgeon Dr Manohar Bansode to resolve the deadlock.

As part of the arrangement, space has been earmarked within the Central Hospital for the medical college’s Dean’s office. Dean Verma reportedly inspected the premises and finalised the location.

The medical college has also expressed willingness to utilise its available funds to develop advanced facilities at the Central Hospital, including a modern ICU, MRI and CT scan units, as well as a Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).

The availability of specialist doctors and advanced diagnostic and critical-care facilities is expected to reduce the need for patients to be referred to hospitals in Mumbai or Kalwa.

The initiative is being viewed as a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Ulhasnagar, particularly for patients requiring specialised and emergency treatment.
