The highly anticipated L&T Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series is gearing up for its fifth edition, solidifying its status as one of India’s premier women’s tennis tournaments. Scheduled to take place at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) from February 2 to 8, the event will kick off with the Qualifying Rounds on January 30, 31, and February 1.
This year’s tournament promises a robust international field in both Singles and Doubles, featuring established players from around the globe. The 2026 Singles entry list includes notable names such as New Zealand’s Lulu Sun, Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja, Australia’s Kimberly Birrell, Belgium’s Hanne Vandewinkel, and Chinese Taipei’s Joanna Garland. Notably, the tournament will welcome back Runner-Up Mananchaya Sawangkaew from Thailand and France’s Leolia Jeajean, both of whom are expected to make a significant impact.
The L&T Mumbai Open continues its commitment to nurturing Indian tennis talent by providing high-level international exposure. Indian players will have the opportunity to enter the Main Draw through Wild Cards, ensuring that local talent, such as Panvel-based Akansha Nitture, competes alongside top-tier international athletes.
The previous edition saw 16-year-old Maaya Rajeswaran make headlines with her remarkable run to the semi-finals, defeating higher-ranked opponents along the way. The tournament also served as a crucial preparation ground for India’s Billie Jean King Cup Asia Oceania Group I team, with players like Sahaja Yamalapalli and Ankita Raina gaining invaluable match experience.
Sunder Iyer, Hon Secretary of MSLTA, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “The L&T Mumbai Open has steadily grown into a marquee event on the Indian tennis calendar. We are excited to host a competitive WTA 125K Series event and provide Indian players with a platform to showcase their skills against top international talent. We look forward to an exhilarating week of world-class tennis in Mumbai.”
