India ends 2026 Asian Games campaign with 85 medals

Aichi-Nagoya (Japan): India signed off from the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, finishing fourth in the overall standings after a strong campaign across several disciplines.
The country’s biggest success came in cricket, kabaddi and hockey, where India completed gold-medal sweeps in both men’s and women’s events.
In cricket, India retained both titles. The women defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final, while the men beat Pakistan by 19 runs to complete a golden double.
Kabaddi also delivered two gold medals. The women overcame Iran 37-34 to defend their title, while the men fought back to defeat Iran 40-34.
Hockey produced another historic double. The women ended a 44-year wait for an Asian Games medal by defeating China 1-0, with Lalremsiami scoring the decisive goal in the 10th minute. It was India’s first women’s hockey gold since 1982. The men defeated Malaysia 5-1 to retain their title and claim their fifth Asian Games gold. Both teams also secured qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Archery emerged as another major contributor, winning nine medals, including five gold, two silver and two bronze. Boxing produced India’s best Asian Games campaign in terms of gold medals, with three gold and three bronze.
Indian wrestlers won six medals, comprising two gold, two silver and two bronze, making it the country’s best Asian Games wrestling tally since the 1962 Jakarta Games.
