City school boxers shine at district-level championship

Navi Mumbai: More than 200 school students showcased their boxing skills at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) District-Level School Boxing Championship 2025-26, organised by the Sports and Cultural Affairs Department in association with the District Sports Council, Thane.
The championship was held at the fully equipped boxing ring at Marine Centre, Vashi. Students from various schools and junior colleges participated across the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories for boys and girls. Competitors battled across multiple weight divisions, with several students from municipal and private schools securing first place in their respective categories.
The organisers said, “The participation demonstrated growing interest among young athletes in boxing and other competitive sports. The event was conducted with technical support from the Thane District Boxing Association.” All category winners have qualified for the upcoming Mumbai Divisional-Level School Sports Championship. Officials said efforts are also being made to increase participation of students from municipal schools in government-organised sporting events.
