Ulhasnagar: Dr Lal Tanwani, founder of Padma Coaching Classes and Director of Padma Institute of Knowledge and Research, has been nominated by the Union Government for the prestigious Padma Shri Award in recognition of his contributions to education and social service.

He has played a significant role in providing educational opportunities to underprivileged students. Through his initiatives, nearly 20,000 needy children have received free education, helping them pursue better career opportunities and improve their lives.

His efforts in education and community service have earned him several national and international honours. He was honoured with the Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award at Oxford University and has also received recognition including the Rashtra Seva Puraskar, Rashtra Seva Samman and the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Lifetime Achievement Award.

His achievements have also been recorded in the World Book of Records and the India Book of Records.

The Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, is awarded to individuals for distinguished contributions in various fields, including education, art, literature, science, sports and social service.

The recommendation of Dr Tanwani’s name for the award has brought pride and celebration among residents of Ulhasnagar, the academic community and social organisations across Maharashtra. Supporters said the recognition reflects his commitment towards making education accessible to economically weaker sections of society. The honour highlights his dedication to empowering students through education initiatives.
