Ulhasnagar: The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has issued a cybersecurity alert, urging citizens to stay cautious amid a surge in cyber attacks.

Ajay Sable, UMC PRO, confirmed there had been an attempt to hack the corporation’s official website.

“Fortunately, the cyber threat was swiftly detected and neutralized by the IT department,” he said.

UMC has advised residents not to click on unknown links, open suspicious emails, or fall for online scams. Cyber attacks can lead to data theft, financial loss, and service disruptions.

To safeguard against threats, citizens have been urged to use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, regularly update software and anti-virus programs, and back up important data. When using public Wi-Fi, the use of a VPN is strongly recommended.

UMC has also exhorted organizations to train employees in cybersecurity practices to prevent accidental breaches. The municipal corporation emphasized that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and called on all residents to remain alert and act responsibly online.
