Western Railway felicitates Asian Games medal-winning female athletes

Mumbai: Western Railway felicitated its Asian Games 2026 medal-winning athletes at a media interaction held at its headquarters in Churchgate on October 7. Western Railway General Manager Ramashray Pandey congratulated the six women athletes and praised their dedication, determination and contribution to India’s sporting success.
Four Western Railway athletes were part of gold medal-winning teams, while two secured silver medals at the Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
Navneet Kaur and Sunelita Toppo were members of India’s gold-winning women’s hockey team, which defeated China in the final and secured India’s first Asian Games women’s hockey title in 44 years, besides earning direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Sonali Shingate and Raj Rani were part of the gold-winning women’s kabaddi team. Wrestler Antima Panghal won silver in the women’s 53kg freestyle category, while Sonam Uttam Maskar secured silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event.
Pandey highlighted Indian Railways’ continued support for sportspersons through job security, training facilities, special leave, promotions and incentives. He said Western Railway recruits 73 players annually through open recruitment and talent searches.
The Railway also highlighted facilities at the Mahalaxmi Sports Complex and other centres. Pandey urged the media to give greater visibility to sporting achievements and expressed confidence that Western Railway athletes would achieve further success.
