New Delhi: Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has threatened legal action against the organisers of the World T20 Continent Cup after his name was included in the tournament’s list of participants without his knowledge or permission. The cricketer clarified his position on October 13, 2026, through a post on social media platform X.
Dhawan’s name had appeared in the Asia Warriors squad for the inaugural tournament, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong in December 2026. The team announcement also featured former Pakistan cricketers Iftikhar Ahmed and Sohail Tanvir, alongside other retired international players.
Expressing his displeasure, Dhawan said the organisers had used his name without obtaining his consent. He added that his team would take appropriate legal steps to address the matter and urged media organisations and fans not to rely on unauthorised announcements regarding his participation.
The controversy has raised questions about the process through which players were included in the tournament’s announced squads. Dhawan’s statement made it clear that he had not agreed to participate in the event.
Following his public clarification, the tournament organisers confirmed that Dhawan would not feature in the Asia Warriors squad. They attributed his absence to scheduling conflicts and technical considerations but did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding his initial inclusion.
The World T20 Continent Cup is expected to feature four teams: Asia Warriors, Europe Champions, Africa Lions and North America Eagles. The competition aims to bring together several retired international cricketers for its inaugural edition.
As of October 14, 2026, Dhawan’s proposed legal action remains unresolved, with no further details about proceedings publicly available.
