Thane/Ulhasnagar: Residents of Thane and Ulhasnagar are bracing for water shortages as civic authorities implement supply cuts following below-average rainfall across Maharashtra. To conserve available water and prepare for the potential impact of El Niño, the state government has decided to reduce water supply by 10 per cent.
Thane and Ulhasnagar have announced water cuts lasting 24 hours and 36 hours, respectively, affecting households already dependent on carefully managed water supplies.
In Thane, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Jambhul Water Purification Centre will remain shut for 24 hours, from noon on Thursday, October 15, to noon on Friday, October 16. Several areas under the Diva, Mumbra, Kalwa, Wagle and Manpada ward committees will be affected. Supply may remain at low pressure for one to two days after restoration.
In Ulhasnagar, residents of Camps 3, 4 and 5 face further disruption amid complaints of irregular water supply. The shutdown schedule includes a 24-hour interruption from midnight on October 15, followed by a 36-hour shutdown every week from midnight on Thursday to noon on Saturday, beginning October 22.
The restrictions are intended to conserve water stored in Barvi Dam and manage available supplies through October 31, 2027.
The cuts are expected to create additional difficulties for homemakers, senior citizens and families with limited storage capacity. Residents will need to plan their daily water consumption carefully.
Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation Public Relations Officer Prajakta Kulkarni has appealed to residents to store essential water, avoid wastage and cooperate with the administration.
