New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed reports that the opening One-Day International of India’s forthcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka will be moved from Delhi to Ahmedabad.

BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia said on Monday that the match, scheduled for December 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, remains firmly in the national capital. He described suggestions of a relocation as inaccurate and confirmed that the board had taken no such decision.

“Reports suggesting that the India–Sri Lanka ODI match scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not accurate. There has been no such decision by the BCCI,” Saikia said in a statement.

The clarification comes after speculation that renovation work at the Delhi venue could force the fixture to be shifted to Ahmedabad. The board, however, has maintained that the original schedule stands and that the opening match will be played in Delhi as planned.

Saikia also sought to reassure fans and stakeholders by explaining the process behind venue allocation. “Further, it needs to be reiterated that bilateral matches are primarily allotted by following a standard policy,” he said, indicating that the Delhi fixture had been allotted under the board’s established rotation framework.

The BCCI secretary urged media organisations to rely only on official communications from the board for updates concerning fixtures, venues and scheduling. His remarks were intended to prevent further speculation ahead of the series.

Following the Delhi opener, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad are scheduled to host the remaining two matches of the series, with the tour set to conclude by December 27. The board’s statement effectively ends uncertainty over the venue for the first match, preserving Delhi’s place on India’s international cricket calendar.

The clarification is likely to be welcomed by Delhi cricket fans, who can now plan for the high-profile series opener without concern over a late change of venue.
