Rs 40 lakh looted from trader on Kalyan’s Agra Road

Kalyan: A trader carrying Rs 40 lakh in cash was allegedly robbed in broad daylight on the busy Agra Road in Kalyan on Tuesday, September 15, triggering concern among local traders. Two unidentified men riding a motorcycle reportedly rammed into the trader’s two-wheeler, knocked him and his associate to the ground, assaulted them and fled with the cash-filled bag.

The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera outside a nearby shop. According to preliminary information, the suspects fled towards Bhiwandi after the robbery.

The trader, identified as Farooq Akhtar, deals in tobacco and pan masala and lives in the Waldhuni area of Kalyan East. On Tuesday, he was travelling with an associate on a motorcycle to deposit Rs 40 lakh in a bank on Agra Road.

When they were a short distance from the bank, two men approaching from behind allegedly rammed their motorcycle into the traders’ vehicle. As Akhtar and his associate fell on the road, the suspects assaulted them and snatched the bag containing the cash before escaping.

Senior police inspector Ganesh Nhayde of the Bazaar Peth police station and a team reached the spot after being alerted. Police are examining CCTV footage from shops and roads in the area and have formed two teams to identify and trace the suspects. A daytime robbery in a busy commercial area has caused concern among traders.
