Nagoya (Japan): India’s double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol final at the Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday, missing out on a podium finish despite entering the event as one of the medal contenders.

Bhaker qualified third for the final but could not maintain her position during the medal round. She scored 181.1 points and was eliminated after her 18th shot.

South Korea’s Choo Gaeun won the gold medal with an Asian record score of 246.3 points. China’s Shen Yiyao secured silver with 241.3 points, while Jiang Ranxin claimed bronze with 221.6 points.

The result was a disappointing one for the Indian shooting team, which had won both individual and team gold medals in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Bhaker, who won two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, had entered the competition with strong expectations following her recent international performances. However, the final stage proved challenging as she struggled to convert her qualification form into a medal-winning performance.

The 22-year-old shooter will now shift her focus to the women’s 25m pistol event, where she is the defending Asian Games champion. India will hope that Bhaker can bounce back and deliver another strong performance in her specialist discipline.

Her next event will provide an opportunity to add another medal to her growing international record.
