Turbhe: A 32-year-old man from Taloja has been booked by Turbhe police for allegedly sexually exploiting a Pune woman for over three years on the promise of marriage before marrying another woman without informing her.

The accused, identified as Amit Rampravesh Rai (32), was booked under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the woman filed a complaint. Police have launched a search to trace him.

According to the complaint, Rai met the woman in Pune in July 2022, following which the two developed a romantic relationship. He allegedly gained her trust by promising to marry her and repeatedly subjected her to sexual exploitation at different locations.

The complainant alleged that the exploitation continued from July 2022 to October 2025. However, when she began asking Rai about their marriage plans, he allegedly started avoiding the subject and repeatedly evaded her questions.

The matter came to light in May 2026, when the woman discovered that Rai had married another woman, identified as Prachi Pathak, who is from Madhya Pradesh, without informing her.

Feeling cheated, the woman approached the Turbhe police and lodged a formal complaint against Rai. Based on her allegations, police registered an offence under Section 69 of the BNS, which covers sexual intercourse obtained through deceitful means, including a promise to marry made without the intention of fulfilling it, in circumstances specified under the law.

The police have initiated further investigation and are making efforts to trace the accused. The allegations are under investigation, and further action will follow based on the probe's findings.
