Navi Mumbai: A 65-year-old container truck driver was killed on the spot after his vehicle allegedly rammed into a container truck parked along the JNPT-bound lane of National Highway 48 in Uran on October 12 morning.

The accident occurred near Jai Bhavani Petrol Pump in the Dhatum area at around 6.30 am. The impact crushed the front portion of the moving truck’s cabin, trapping the driver inside.

The deceased was identified as Kiran Kumar Bhagwandin Singh, a native of Sultanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, who worked as a driver in the JNPT area.

According to Uran police, Singh was driving container truck No. RJ 14 GK 3377 towards JNPT when he allegedly failed to notice another container truck (MH 46 H 5297) parked on the roadside and crashed into it from behind at high speed.

The collision left Singh trapped inside the mangled cabin, with critical injuries to his head and other parts of his body. Traffic police personnel helped extricate him from the wreckage, but he succumbed to his injuries at the spot. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

During the preliminary investigation, police suspected that the accident occurred because the driver allegedly failed to account for road conditions while driving at high speed.
