Kalyan: A large pothole in the middle of Birla College Road near Sandeep Raksh Stand has become a major safety hazard for motorists, with residents alleging negligence by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in addressing the issue.

The road is one of the important routes connecting Kalyan to Murbad taluka via Ulhasnagar and witnesses heavy vehicular movement throughout the day. The presence of a deep pothole on such a busy stretch has made commuting risky for motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders.

Residents said that while attempting to avoid the pothole, riders often have to suddenly change direction, increasing the possibility of losing control or colliding with other vehicles. The danger is reportedly greater during night hours as the pothole is difficult to spot due to limited visibility, creating a serious risk of accidents.

Citizens have questioned the civic administration’s delay in carrying out repairs despite the pothole being located on a busy road. They have raised concerns over whether authorities will take action only after a serious accident occurs.

“Who will be responsible if an accident takes place?” residents asked, demanding immediate intervention from KDMC. They urged the administration to inspect the road and carry out permanent repairs instead of temporary patchwork.

Motorists have also pointed out that the pothole is affecting traffic movement and causing inconvenience during peak hours. Residents have appealed to KDMC officials to prioritise road maintenance and ensure the safety of commuters before any untoward incident occurs.
