Kalyan: The expansion of Metro line 12 has been announced as a major milestone in improving connectivity across the Kalyan and Thane Lok Sabha constituency. The project, approved through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, will see the launch of Metro 12A.

Under the expansion, a new metro corridor will be constructed parallel to Kalyan-Shilphata Road, linking Kalyan Phata to Taloja Metro Station via Dahisar Mori. The state government has granted administrative approval of Rs 8,414.53 crore for the project. The new alignment is expected to ease vehicular congestion on the busy Shilphata Road while enhancing regional connectivity.

Speaking about the project, Dr. Shrikant Shinde said, “An ambitious decision has been taken to expand the Kalyan to Taloja Metro 12 route.” He added, “Passengers from Dombivli, Manpada, Katai Naka, Growth Center, Desai Naka, Padegaon, Kalyan Phata, Gotheghar, Dahisar Mori, Dahisargaon, Kirawali Gaon, Rohinjan, and Khutari Gaon will benefit from this expansion.”

The 18.4-km elevated corridor will feature 12 stations, including Manpada, Katai Naka, Kalyan Growth Centre, Desai Naka, Padelagaon, Kalyan Phata, Gotheghar, Dahisar Mori, Dahisargaon, Kirawali Gaon, Rohinjan, and Khutari Gaon. Around 10.5 km of construction work is already underway. The project proposes track sharing with Metro 14 between Katai Naka and Kalyan Phata and will integrate with the Nilje Depot connection and the proposed Thane Bullet Train Station.

Dr. Shinde stated, “The expansion will also extend metro connectivity to Kalwa, Diva, and Mumbra areas in the future, further strengthening transport infrastructure and boosting mobility across the region.”
