New Delhi: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde participated as a panellist at the 9th International India Water Week 2026, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and highlighted the city’s sustainable water management initiatives.

Speaking at the session titled “Rural–Urban Water Grids & Innovation in Safe Reuse of Treated Water”, Dr Shinde stressed the need to treat wastewater as a valuable resource rather than waste. He said technology and financial innovations were essential to building a water-secure and sustainable future.

Dr Shinde presented NMMC’s treated wastewater reuse model, stating that the civic body treats 100 per cent of daily sewage with a total processing capacity of 454 MLD. The treated water is supplied for industrial use, gardens, construction activities and other non-potable purposes, helping conserve freshwater resources.

He also spoke about the use of digital technologies such as SCADA systems, GIS, Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and artificial intelligence-based analysis to improve water management in Navi Mumbai.

The commissioner highlighted NMMC’s collaboration with MIDC for supplying treated water to industries, which has provided an alternative water source for industrial establishments and helped conserve drinking water supplies for residents.

The panel discussion focused on digitalisation, AI, innovative financing, water reuse and sustainable urban water management. Experts from organisations including the World Bank, Jacobs and Digital Pani also participated in the session.
