Dombivli: A sense of uncertainty has gripped industries in Dombivli MIDC after around 542 units received demolition notices over the use of marginal spaces. The Kalyan Ambernath Manufacturers Association (KAMA) has sought an immediate stay on the proposed action, warning that it could affect production activities and industrial operations.
KAMA president Narayan Mane, addressing a press conference on Thursday, claimed that demolition action could be initiated within 24 hours if the structures mentioned in the notices were not removed. He urged authorities to take a practical view of the issue by considering the operational requirements of existing industries.
Mane said the marginal spaces were within the boundaries of industrial plots and were being used for essential facilities such as cooling towers, DG sets, effluent treatment plants (ETPs), electrical meter rooms, security cabins and other necessary infrastructure.
He said removing these facilities without assessing their importance could affect environmental compliance, fire safety measures and routine manufacturing processes. Several industries could face operational challenges if these structures are dismantled, he added.
KAMA also highlighted infrastructure concerns in Dombivli MIDC, including poor roads, inadequate street lighting, water supply issues, drainage problems, parking shortages, fire safety facilities, frequent power disruptions and rising property taxes.
The association stated that while industries were ready to follow safety and regulatory requirements, authorities should consider the realities of decades-old units. It has demanded a phased implementation of regulations and sought corrective measures or regularisation wherever feasible instead of immediate demolition.
KAMA said protecting industries would help safeguard employment, investment and the overall industrial ecosystem of the region.
