Kalyan: Citizens of Khadakpada, Bhagwan Nagar, and Everest Nagar in Kalyan West, grappling with irregular and contaminated water supply, staged a ‘Matka Phodo’ protest outside the KDMC headquarters.
The area has been facing water shortages for over a year, and despite multiple follow-ups with the KDMC administration, the issue remains unresolved.
Frustrated residents, led by former corporator Umesh Borgaonkar, warned that they will resort to blocking roads in Khadakpada if the problem is not addressed urgently.
For over a year, Ward Nos. 23 and 27, including Bhagwan Nagar and Everest Nagar, have experienced low-pressure and contaminated water supply. Despite repeated complaints and a previous “water march” that temporarily improved the situation for a few days, the problem persists.
Assurances of improvement have been given, but no concrete solution has been provided. In protest, women from the area organised the Matka Phodo march at KDMC’s headquarters. Borgaonkar warned that if the issue is not resolved soon, the residents will take their protests to Khadakpada Chowk and block the road.
