Mira-Bhayandar: The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), in partnership with Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd., has launched an extensive plastic waste management initiative under the ‘Bottles for Change’ campaign. Comprising two major facilities—a fully equipped Plastic Recovery Centre and the region’s first Sustainability Inspiration Centre, a museum dedicated to plastic recycling, the project was inaugurated on November 26.

The state-of-the-art Plastic Recovery Centre, designed as a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), is equipped with conveyor belts, baling machines and other modern systems supplied by Bisleri. It will streamline the collection, sorting, and recycling of plastic waste from hotels, educational institutions, commercial establishments, and residential societies. The centre aims to significantly strengthen the city’s recycling infrastructure and support efficient processing of plastic waste.

Complementing this, the Sustainability Inspiration Centre serves as an interactive learning space. Built entirely from recycled materials, it showcases innovative exhibits demonstrating the transformation of plastic waste into useful products.

A key highlight is “Binny the Bird,” a striking installation created from 2,000 recycled plastic bottles. The museum aims to spark curiosity among students and citizens while promoting responsible plastic use. The project also includes the installation of 70 public benches made from recycled bottle caps across the city, symbolizing community-driven recycling.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhabinod A Sharma said, “Effective plastic waste management is a top civic priority and that the new centres will play a crucial role in improving waste segregation awareness, especially among students. The partnership with Bisleri, strengthens MBMC’s environmental initiatives and supports the city’s vision of a cleaner, more sustainable Mira-Bhayandar.”

Together, these efforts advance a robust circular economy model, reinforcing Bisleri’s commitment to responsible plastic use, recycling and public participation.
