Mumbai: Trentar Private Limited, the technology and infrastructure arm of Dorf Ketal Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to invest Rs 30,000 crore ($3.3 billion) in a 500 MW green integrated hyperscale data centre project in the state.

The MoU was exchanged under the Invest Maharashtra initiative and formally handed over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Under the agreement, the state government will facilitate applicable permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances and incentives in accordance with existing policies. The project has also received a Letter of Intent outlining the applicable support and incentives.

The proposed facility will cater to the growing demand for big-data analytics, large-scale data processing, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.

Trentar said the campus is being designed to source at least 51 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy. The company is also evaluating treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling systems, with the final technology choices to be determined following detailed design and feasibility studies.

The project marks Dorf Ketal Group’s entry into large-scale digital infrastructure. Established in 1992, the group has built a global specialty chemicals business serving industrial applications. According to the company, its experience in process engineering, utilities, thermal management, water treatment and energy efficiency will support the proposed data centre project.

Trentar Group Founder and Vice-Chairman Subodh Menon said the company would develop a modular campus focused on rapid deployment, scalability, sustainability and cost efficiency.

The facility is expected to contribute to India’s digital infrastructure by supporting secure, resilient and sovereign data processing capabilities.
