Kalyan: A case has been registered against three people in Kalyan in connection with the alleged brutal torture and hanging of a stray dog, after a video of the incident surfaced on social media and triggered widespread outrage.

The incident reportedly took place on the night of October 3 at Suresh Complex Society on Gymkhana Road. According to the complaint, the stray dog was caught inside the society premises and allegedly beaten severely, leaving it seriously injured. The accused then reportedly tied a rope around the animal’s neck and hanged it, resulting in its death.

The entire incident was allegedly recorded on a mobile phone. After the video circulated widely on social media, animal lovers and residents expressed anger over the treatment of the animal.

Animal rights activist Heer Rajput brought the matter to the attention of Manpada Police, following which officers initiated action and registered an FIR against three individuals. The accused have been identified as society residents Omkar Kendra and Tushar Kendra, along with security guard Prakash, who was posted at the premises.

Police have booked the accused under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11(1)(A) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Investigators are examining the viral video and other available evidence as part of the probe.

Some residents claimed that the dog had bitten people in the locality, creating fear among residents. However, animal welfare supporters strongly condemned the alleged killing, maintaining that complaints about aggressive animals should be handled through lawful and humane measures.
