Ulhasnagar: The political dispute between Shiv Sena and the BJP over the appointment of co-opted corporators in the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation has escalated, with cross-complaints filed at the Central and Ulhasnagar police stations.
The dispute reportedly intensified following allegations made during a municipal corporation meeting and threats exchanged on social media.
According to the complaint filed by Deepa Punjabi, BJP Water Supply Committee Chairperson, a case has been registered against Kamlesh Nikam, husband of Mayor Ashwini Nikam, and 30 to 40 of his alleged supporters. They have been accused of shouting obscene slogans, verbally abusing members and forming an unlawful assembly.
In a counter-complaint filed by Kamlesh Nikam, BJP office-bearers Manish Hingorani, Kapil Adsul, Avinash Punjabi, Gaurav Bhalerao, Rakesh Pathak and Pradeep Ramchandani have been accused of allegedly issuing death threats and using abusive language.
The dispute gained momentum during the selection process for co-opted corporators, after Nikam reportedly made allegations against BJP State President Ravindra Chavan. A commotion subsequently broke out at the municipal headquarters.
With complaints lodged by both sides, the matter has now taken a legal turn. Police are investigating the allegations and examining the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
