Belapur: Two days after a 17-year-old boy’s car plunged from Parsik Hill onto the Belapur-Uran railway tracks, police investigation has revealed that the minor had allegedly purchased the Honda City for Rs 1.90 lakh using the documents of his 18-year-old friend.

The CBD Belapur police have registered a case against the friend, identified as Pranav Gavhane, for allegedly helping the minor purchase the vehicle and handing it over to him despite him not being legally permitted to drive.

The accident took place on September 24 around 3:30 p.m. near the Vishwanath Maharaj Samadhi Memorial Temple at Parsik Hill, when the teenager, a resident of Turbhe, reportedly lost control of the car near the tunnel close to CBD Belapur railway station. The vehicle fell onto the Belapur-Uran railway tracks, leaving the boy trapped inside and seriously injured.

The car landed between the railway tracks instead of falling on the overhead electric wires, averting a major accident. However, the vehicle removal operation disrupted local train services on the route for nearly three hours.

During the probe, police found that the minor had allegedly purchased the second-hand Honda City from a car dealer by paying Rs 1.90 lakh. Since he was underage, his friend’s documents were allegedly used to complete the transaction.

Police said Gavhane had reportedly not even seen the car despite his documents being used. Investigators are now probing the source of the money used for the purchase and whether the minor’s family was aware of the transaction.

The police are also examining the role of other persons involved in the vehicle purchase process. Further investigation is underway.
