Kalyan: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s Women and Child Welfare Department has launched a month-long awareness and self-defence programme under the ‘Seva Sankalp’ campaign. The initiative combines the ‘Drug-Free India’ awareness drive with karate and martial arts training for schoolgirls.

The programme was held at Subhedarwada School, where students were educated about the harmful effects of addiction and trained in basic self-defence techniques. The initiative aims to build confidence, courage and physical and mental preparedness among girls to deal with potentially unsafe situations.

The programme is being implemented jointly by KDMC officials, Women’s Welfare Foundation, karate trainers and counsellors. Training will continue for a month, with 300 girls each from Kalyan and Dombivli expected to participate.
