Kalyan: The Gandhari Bridge on the Kalyan-Bhiwandi road has been plunged into darkness at night due to non-functional streetlights, creating difficulties for motorists and pedestrians and raising concerns over road safety.

The bridge is an important link between Kalyan and Bhiwandi and witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day. Many motorists also use the Bapgaon route to avoid congestion on the Kalyan-Bhiwandi bypass. However, inadequate lighting on the bridge has made night-time travel increasingly difficult.

Several potholes have reportedly developed at different points on the bridge. With poor visibility, motorists may struggle to spot these potholes in time, increasing the risk of accidents. Pedestrians travelling across the bridge at night are also exposed to potential safety concerns.

Concerned citizen Sandeep Pandit has urged the authorities to address the issue immediately. He demanded that the faulty streetlights be inspected and repaired and that adequate illumination be provided along the bridge.

Citizens have also alleged that the Public Works Department (PWD) has failed to give sufficient attention to the prolonged streetlight problem. They have called for urgent action to improve visibility and ensure safer movement for motorists and pedestrians.
