Ambernath: An eight-year-long demand for an independent railway police station at Ambernath has finally been fulfilled with the inauguration of a new facility at platform number 1A of Ambernath Railway Station on Wednesday, September 15.

The new railway police station was inaugurated by Prashant Burde (IPS), Director General of Maharashtra State Railway Police. The station will have jurisdiction over three important railway stations, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur, and is the fifth railway police station established under the Mumbai Railway Police Commissionerate.

The facility is expected to strengthen security measures amid rising passenger traffic, rapid urbanisation and increasing concerns over crime on railway premises. Officials said the new station would help ensure quicker police response, improve crime prevention and provide better assistance to commuters.

Speaking at the inauguration, Burde said the facility would provide better infrastructure to railway police personnel and enhance their efficiency. He added that the station was operationalised within the targeted timeframe following the government’s approval for new railway police stations on March 3, 2025, and efforts by Railway Police Commissioner M. Rakesh Kalasagar and his team.

The inauguration was attended by senior police and railway officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Jadhav, Central Railway ADRM Arun Kumar and other dignitaries.

Rajesh Ghanghav, president of the Karjat-Kalyan-Kasara Railway Passengers Association, welcomed the move, stating that the association had pursued the demand for eight years.

Senior Police Inspector Laxman Chavan urged passengers to immediately approach the railway police in cases of luggage theft, harassment of women or other grievances.
