BMC settles for 25% rent hike for Mumbai City FC home games

Mumbai: Mumbai City FC has reached an agreement with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to use the Mumbai Football Arena at Andheri Sports Complex for their home matches in the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season.
The agreement comes after negotiations over a steep proposed increase in the stadium’s rental charges. The BMC had initially proposed a 250% hike, but the final settlement is understood to involve an increase of around 25%. The club had paid approximately Rs 10 lakh per match two seasons ago.
The deal ends uncertainty over Mumbai City’s home venue ahead of the new ISL season, which begins on October 10. However, the club will face an unusual start to its campaign, with its first three matches scheduled away from home.
Mumbai City will play Churchill Brothers on October 11, followed by away fixtures against Punjab FC and Kerala Blasters. The Islanders are scheduled to return to the Mumbai Football Arena on November 1, when they host Sporting Club Delhi.
The delayed access to the venue is linked to an MLBx event at the Andheri Sports Complex on October 24.
