Bhiwandi corporator’s caste certificate declared invalid

Bhiwandi: The District Caste Certificate Verification Committee has declared invalid the Ansari Other Backward Class (OBC) caste certificate submitted by NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) corporator Farzana Mohammad Suleman, raising questions over her continuation as a corporator.
Suleman was elected from Ward No. 4A, reserved for women from the OBC category. She had submitted an Ansari caste certificate issued by the Bhiwandi Sub-Divisional Officer’s Office on August 12, 2022.
The certificate was challenged by defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Iram Ahmed Hussain Ansari. During the verification process, the committee examined school records and other documents submitted by both sides. The records reportedly contained differing references to religion and community in the school certificates of Suleman and her family members.
Following examination of the evidence and written submissions, the three-member committee headed by chairperson Revati Gaikar ruled that Suleman’s Ansari OBC certificate was invalid.
The decision has put her corporator position in question. Attempts to contact Suleman and complainant Iram Ansari for their reactions were unsuccessful.
