Navi Mumbai: The horrific hit-and-run accident that shook Navi Mumbai on March 3 has claimed its second victim. Seventeen-year-old Harman Kaur, who had been fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital, Nerul, passed away on March 20. The accident had previously claimed the life of 23-year-old Prashant Jamdade on the spot.
Harman, who sustained catastrophic injuries to her head and body, never regained consciousness during her 16-day hospitalization. Her state remained so critical that the Sanpada Police were unable to record her statement before she breathed her last. Her final rites were performed at Koparkhairane on March 20.
The accident occurred in the early hours of March 3, near the curve between Sarsole Junction and Moraj Circle. Prashant Jamdade and Harman were traveling toward Koparkhairane when their motorcycle skidded. Within seconds of the fall, a Skoda and a Maruti Brezza trailing behind crushed them. The impact was so violent that Prashant was decapitated instantly.
Following the crash, both car drivers fled the scene without offering assistance. Sanpada Police analysed technical data and CCTV footage to identify the suspects as Sagar Sanda (23) and Krishna Ravaria (20), both residents of Ghansoli. The investigation is ongoing, and we are in the process of filing a formal chargesheet against the identified accused in court," said PSI Amol Munde of Sanpada Police Station.
The deaths have left two families devastated. Prashant, the son of an auto-rickshaw driver, had recently started a job at a trading firm and was the primary hope for his family.
Harman’s mother, who lived alone with her daughter, was seen in an inconsolable state at the funeral. "The accused showed no humanity. They left my daughter bleeding on the road and ran away. They must face the harshest punishment possible," a relative stated on behalf of the grieving mother.
With both victims now deceased, the local community and the victims' families have intensified their demands for the immediate arrest and strict prosecution of the drivers involved.
