Kalyan: Illegal dumping and burning of waste along service roads in the residential zone of Dombivli MIDC have raised concerns over pollution and the risk of a major accident. Raju Nalawade has urged the authorities to take immediate action, citing the presence of high-pressure petroleum pipelines, Mahanagar Gas pipelines and electricity lines in the area.
Nalawade identified several waste-dumping spots, including RM-23, the senior citizens’ association hall, Shri Ganraj Banquet Hall, IDBI Bank and the stretch from Rohideshwar Darshan Society to DNS Bank.
He said burning plastic, thermocol and rubber produces smoke that threatens residents’ health, particularly that of senior citizens and children. The presence of critical pipelines and power infrastructure further heightens the risk of fire-related accidents.
Nalawade has urged the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) to examine CCTV footage to identify those responsible for dumping and burning waste and take strict action against them.
He also suggested that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) develop gardens and undertake tree plantation on vacant plots beneath electricity lines to discourage illegal waste dumping and improve the surroundings.
He has called for urgent intervention to curb pollution and prevent a potentially serious accident.
