Thane, known as city of parks, is all set to undergo a remarkable transformation as the state government allocates Rs. 75 crores for the beautification and renovation of 144 parks within Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). This initiative ‘Integrated Park Development Program’ aims to breathe new life into the city's parks, ensuring that they become vibrant and inviting spaces for the residents.
The Thane Municipal Administration has meticulously outlined a comprehensive plan for the rejuvenation of these parks, which have been showing signs of neglect due to insufficient maintenance and beautification efforts. With Thane being fondly referred to as the "City of Lakes and Parks," this ambitious project is expected to restore these green spaces to their former glory.
The Integrated Park Development Program, initiated by the municipal corporation, recognizes the need to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of these parks to attract more visitors and foster a sense of community. A fund of Rs. 75 crores, approved by the state government, will empower the municipal corporation to revamp the parks, develop road infrastructure, strengthen Kalwa Hospital, and construct the municipal headquarters building.
The plan categorizes the 144 parks into four groups (A, B, C, and D) based on their current condition and required improvements. Group A comprises well-maintained parks, while Group B includes 46 parks that require moderate improvements. Group C highlights 44 parks in need of extensive repair and enhancement. Group D encompasses 18 parks already undergoing renovation work.
To ensure the sustained care and maintenance of these green spaces, a three-year contract will be awarded to a selected contractor after beautification work is completed. This strategic move aims to preserve the improved condition of the parks and foster a sense of pride among Thane's residents.
Municipal Commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, recently convened a meeting with the Parks Department to discuss the park beautification plan's progress and review the strategies for post-renovation maintenance. The rejuvenation of Thane's parks is expected to not only enhance the city's visual appeal but also create more welcoming spaces for its residents, promoting a healthier and happier community.
