Panvel: In a bid to strengthen the ongoing 'Majhi Vasundhara' tree plantation campaign, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) convened a planning meeting on May 22 at its municipal headquarters.

Mangesh Chitale, Municipal Commissioner, led the session, which included participation from representatives of various schools, colleges, NSS department teachers, and members of over 20 social organizations and environmental NGOs operating in the region. Ravikiran Ghodke and Abhishek Paradkar, deputy commissioners along with Manoj Chavan, environment department head, were also present.

The meeting focused on streamlining and coordinating tree plantation efforts along road dividers, in open spaces, and across other government-owned areas within the municipal limits. To enhance these activities, the civic corporation has formed a dedicated Tree Plantation Committee tasked with executing a comprehensive planting campaign throughout Panvel’s jurisdiction, said Chitale. “We have emphasized the urgent need for collaboration among all stakeholders to commit to tree planting and environmental conservation.”

Ganesh Shete, additional commissioner and chair of the committee meeting, urged all participants to actively contribute to the campaign. He highlighted the critical role of social organizations and NGOs not only in planting but also in nurturing the saplings to ensure their growth. He further assured that the municipal corporation will provide full support and cooperation to these groups.
