The construction of the new Thane Railway Station, a collaborative effort between the Government of India's Smart City Mission, the Government of Maharashtra, and the Thane Municipal Corporation, took a significant step forward. In a meeting chaired by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, it was decided that all infrastructure within the circulation area of the station will be handled by the Ministry of Railways, with funding assured from their end.

MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde and MP Naresh Mhaske's proactive approach has been instrumental in securing savings amounting to approximately Rs. 185 crores for the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). This initiative, discussed at Rail Bhavan in Delhi, was attended by Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao and Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi.

The new railway station project under Thane Smart City will see the Ministry of Railways oversee essential tasks such as track construction and station building within the circulation area. Concurrently, Thane Smart City will manage ancillary works like decks and ramps outside this area.

"The Ministry of Railways is committed to expediting this project and will allocate necessary funds for the railway circulation area," stated Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav during the meeting. He also agreed to streamline approvals for Smart City-led infrastructure works outside the station's immediate vicinity, excluding those related to the Metro project.

Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao highlighted the project's benefits for Thane, underscoring its strategic importance and the collaborative efforts driving its implementation. Expressing gratitude, he thanked MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde and MP Naresh Mhaske for their pivotal role in advancing this critical infrastructure initiative.
