Kalyan: The Station Masters Association has warned of a work stoppage if the attackers involved in recent assaults on railway station masters are not arrested immediately and strict legal action is not taken against them.
Over the past eight days, incidents have been reported in which station masters on duty at Kalyan, Ambernath and Badlapur railway stations were allegedly assaulted inside their offices over delays in local train services.
In protest against the attacks, hundreds of station masters staged a demonstration near Kalyan railway station, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and better security for railway employees.
The association also questioned the effectiveness of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) in preventing attacks on staff members performing their duties. Members stressed that station masters should not be targeted for delays in train operations.
Kumar Kundan of the Station Masters Association expressed concern over the repeated incidents and called for immediate police intervention.
“The anger is directed at the station masters for running late local trains. When are the RPF and GRP going to take concrete action when there are frequent attacks on the employees on duty? If the attackers are not arrested immediately and legal action is not taken, we will stop work,” Kundan warned.
The association has demanded swift action against the accused and stronger security measures to protect railway personnel. It has made clear that a work stoppage remains an option if its demands are not addressed.
