Shiv Sena - Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction organized a torch rally from Ulhasnagar to Kalyan East on Sunday, demanding urgent government action on the growing issue of women's and girls' safety. Led by Kalyan District Chief Dhananjay Bodare, the rally saw participation from Shiv Sainiks, Mahila Aghadi, Yuva Sena, and Yuvati Sena.
Bodare strongly criticized the government for its inaction, highlighting rising incidents of atrocities against women. Citing recent cases like the brutal murder of a minor girl in Kalyan Tisgaon, Bodare condemned the failure to punish the accused, along with other incidents in Shilphata, Uran, and Badlapur. A particularly shocking attack on a woman police officer in Vithalwadi was also discussed, questioning the safety of citizens if even the police are at risk.
"Where the police are not safe, how can common citizens be?" Bodare asked, while vowing to escalate their efforts during the Navratri festival, lighting the torch as a symbol of the fight against these "evil forces."
The rally, which began at Jijamata Udyan in Ulhasnagar and concluded at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan in Kalyan East, saw fiery slogans and passionate protests demanding concrete government measures for women's safety, not just schemes like the 'Ladki Bahin' program, which the opposition claims has failed to ensure protection for women.
Women at the rally voiced their anger and concern, stating that only solid action will bring real safety for women across Maharashtra. The torch-lit march marked a powerful protest, calling for the government's attention and action.
