Navi Mumbai: A proposal to open an orchestra bar and obtain a liquor licence for M/s Hausa Restaurant in the residential building ‘The Affairs’ in Sector 17, Sanpada, along Palm Beach Road, has triggered strong opposition from residents and local representatives.
Citing the Maharashtra Government’s Home Department circular dated July 27, 2026, and provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, residents have demanded that the proposed licence be rejected.
Corporator Nishant Bhagat and the Palm Beach (Sonkhar) Senior Citizens Service Committee have submitted a formal objection to the Konkan Divisional Commissioner, seeking immediate intervention. They have warned of mass agitation and legal action if the proposal proceeds.
Residents have raised concerns over the establishment’s location, noting that the same building houses Advance Eye Hospital and that both premises share a common entrance. They have also pointed out that Jaipuriar School, Sadhu Vaswani School and several religious and community prayer centres are reportedly located within 200 metres.
The neighbourhood also has a jogging track and recreational centre frequented by women and senior citizens. Residents fear the proposed bar could disturb the residential environment and raise concerns about the safety of children, students, women and elderly people.
According to Bhagat and local representatives, the issue was raised with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to the area last month. Bhagat submitted a representation in the presence of State Forest Minister Ganesh Naik.
The representatives claimed that the Chief Minister had assured them that public sentiment would be respected and the locality’s social environment protected.
Opposition intensified after the establishment’s operator reportedly approached the Konkan Divisional Commissioner through an appeal.
Bhagat and the committee have demanded an immediate stay on the proposal and strict enforcement of applicable rules. They said they would launch a public agitation and approach the court if their objections remain unaddressed.
