Explore Babasaheb’s Legacy: Visit the Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Gyan Smarak on Mahaparinirvana Day

On the occasion of Mahaparinirvana Day, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has urged citizens to visit the Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Gyan Smarak in Airoli, a monument dedicated to the legacy and teachings of Dr. Ambedkar. Known for its focus on the ideologies of knowledge and empowerment, the memorial has become a centre of learning, attracting thousands of visitors from across the country and abroad.

The memorial, inaugurated on December 5, 2021, has witnessed over 3.25 lakh visitors in just three years. Its identity as a "knowledge monument" is defined by its state-of-the-art library, which houses over 5,000 books, including Dr. Ambedkar’s writings and books on other eminent personalities. The library also features an e-library with audio-visual facilities, allowing modern-day readers to engage with Dr. Ambedkar’s thoughts through online resources.

The memorial’s rare photo gallery, chronicling Babasaheb’s life through historical documents and photographs, offers an inspiring look at his journey from birth to Mahaparinirvana. Additionally, a holographic presentation of Dr. Ambedkar’s speeches, along with a meditation center that has already hosted over 48,000 visitors, enhances the spiritual experience.

The memorial also serves as an intellectual hub, with lecture series like 'Vichar Vedh' and 'Jagar' offering a platform for renowned thinkers to exchange ideas. With a focus on Babasaheb’s ideals, this unique monument continues to attract visitors seeking both spiritual and intellectual fulfillment.

In a special initiative this year, a stall at Chaityabhoomi, Mumbai, will provide information about the Gyan Smarak, encouraging citizens visiting Chaityabhoomi to also explore the memorial in Airoli. NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has appealed to citizens to take part in this enriching experience on Mahaparinirvana Day, helping to spread Dr. Ambedkar’s message of knowledge and empowerment.
