In preparation for Swachh Survekshan 2024, Navi Mumbai is embarking on a mission to elevate its cleanliness ranking to the top spot in the country by 2023. To achieve this ambitious goal, a greater emphasis is being placed on public participation, particularly involving the youth. Commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Rajesh Narvekar, has introduced the concept of Swachhta Yodha, aiming to engage NSS (National Service Scheme) student teams from colleges in cleanliness initiatives.
As part of the Swachhta Yodha 2024 initiative, an event was held at Vishnudas Bhave Theater, in collaboration with NSS teams from various colleges and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. NMMC chief awarded certificates to NSS teams from 35 colleges for their active participation in cleanliness activities during Swachh Survekshan 2023. Additional Commissioner Sujata Dhole, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department Babasaheb Rajale and other officials were present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Additional Commissioner Sujata Dhole commended the disciplined efforts of NSS students in sanitation work and urged everyone to take a digital oath for Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan to enhance Navi Mumbai's reputation. Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department, Dr. Babasaheb Rajle, expressed confidence in NSS students' enthusiastic participation in Swachh Survekshan 2024 and encouraged them to actively promote cleanliness messages on social media platforms and in their local communities.
The event also featured a street drama titled "My Shehar My Responsibilities" by young artists from Arambam Creations, which received appreciation from the audience. Attendees also praised the waste classification tapes featuring mascots Olu, Suku, and Mahattu.
