Neha Bora denies involvement in CJP’s protest call

New Delhi, October 22: All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora on Thursday, October 22,  told the Delhi High Court that she was not involved in a protest call issued by the CJP at Connaught Place’s Central Park on October 16.

The court was hearing her petition challenging a Delhi Police notice directing her to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for Bora, termed her detention and the notice illegal, stating that she had organised a separate protest at Mandi House.

A New Delhi district police officer, designated as the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM), had directed Bora to appear on October 19 and execute the bond. The order was issued on October 17, the day she was released following her detention.

The notice cited alleged sloganeering at Mandi House, repeated protests near Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and alleged instigation of people to join the Connaught Place protest.

In her petition, filed through advocate Abhik Chimni, Bora argued that the notice was ambiguous, factually incorrect and violated her constitutional rights. She said it did not provide evidence to establish the likelihood of a breach of peace or specify the event or period for which such a breach was apprehended.

Bora was detained on October 16 while participating in a flag march with AISA activists at Mandi House. She was released the following morning after being held overnight.

The incident followed the arrest of CJP co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka over the unfurling of the national flag at Jantar Mantar.
