Ulhasnagar: An interstate cyber fraud racket involving a retired government official and a loss of Rs 2.12 crore has led to the arrest of a gym trainer from Ulhasnagar by Rajasthan Cyber Police.

The case involves a retired Geological Survey of India official based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, who was allegedly targeted by cybercriminals using the ‘digital arrest’ scam. Between August 9 and August 18, the accused reportedly threatened the victim with false money-laundering allegations and kept him under continuous ‘digital arrest’ through video calls. The fraudsters allegedly used fake arrest warrants to create fear and pressure the official into transferring Rs 2,12,10,000 to multiple bank accounts.

Following an investigation, Rajasthan Police conducted a raid in Ulhasnagar and arrested Ravindra Jitendra Prasad Singh, also known as Akshay Singh and Deva.

According to investigators, Ravindra allegedly came into contact with the cybercriminals through a Telegram channel. He is accused of using a SIM card registered under a false identity to arrange accommodation for other accused individuals. He also allegedly provided bank account documents and transaction details to his associates to facilitate the fraudulent operation.

After his arrest, the gym trainer was taken to Jaipur on a transit warrant to face further investigation and legal proceedings.

Police have arrested seven suspects so far in connection with the case. The investigation is continuing to establish the roles of the accused and trace the wider network involved in the alleged cyber fraud.

The arrest has highlighted the possible local links of an interstate cybercrime operation that exploited fear of law enforcement to defraud a retired government official of a substantial amount.
