Mira Bhayandar News: MNS threatens agitation over unpaid wages to MBMC contract workers

Bhayandar: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has issued a stern ultimatum to the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), demanding the immediate resolution of pending salary payments for hundreds of contractual workers. In a letter submitted to the municipal commissioner, the party warned of an aggressive ‘MNS-style’ protest within the civic headquarters if a joint meeting with all officials concerned and contractors was not convened.

The issue concerns employees in key departments such as fire services, IT, pest control, tree trimming, animal care, traffic wardens, gardens, water supply, and transport — many of whom have not received their wages for over two to three months. Moreover, basic entitlements such as provident fund (PF) and ESIC (Employees' State Insurance) have reportedly not been provided.

Speaking to the media, Sandeep Rane, MNS Mira Bhayandar unit president, said, “This is a grave issue affecting the livelihood of workers who are the backbone of the city's daily operations. Their families are suffering, and yet the administration continues to turn a blind eye. If the civic body fails to address this within 10 days, we will stage a protest in true MNS style right inside the commissioner's office. The administration will be solely responsible for any resulting law-and-order situation.”

The party has accused the municipal officials of negligence and allowing contractors to operate unchecked. Rane added, “Exploitation of workers will not be tolerated. We demand accountability and immediate redressal.”

The MNS letter also lists the key officials who need to be present for the meeting. It includes the municipal commissioner, city engineer Deepak Khambit, additional commissioner Sambhaji Panpatte, deputy commissioner Kalpita Pimple, Sachin Bangar, Prasad Shingte, establishment head Sunil Yadav, medical health officer Dr Pramod Padwal, fire officer Prakash Borade, water supply engineer Sharad Nanegaonkar, auditor Sudhir Nakade, and all contractors concerned.
