Bhayandar: Following spate of complaints regarding lack of monsoon preparedness by Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) and concerns about the quality of work by contractors, MLA Narendra Mehta and MBMC commissioner and administrator Radhabinod Sharma conducted a joint inspection of pre-monsoon drain cleaning works across key locations in the city.
The inspection covered crucial sites including the Balkrishna Ughadi nullah, the Bhayandar East-West culvert, and the railway-parallel drain along BP Road. The officials assessed the progress and quality of the ongoing cleaning efforts, which are vital to prevent urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon season.
MLA Mehta emphasized the importance of timely and efficient work. “Monsoon preparedness is not just about ticking boxes — it’s about ensuring the safety and convenience of the citizens. Drain cleaning must be completed on time and without compromise in quality,” he stated.
Echoing the sentiment, Commissioner Sharma issued strict instructions to all officials concerned and contractors. “Any negligence or carelessness in these works will not be tolerated. Every nullah must be cleaned thoroughly and within the stipulated timeframe. It is our responsibility to ensure the city is ready for the rains, and I expect all officials and contractors to work with full accountability,” Sharma asserted.
Both leaders highlighted the necessity of a systematic and quality-driven approach to pre-monsoon work. They instructed the municipal departments to implement all necessary measures to avoid inconvenience to citizens during the rains.
Senior officials from the MBMC, including department heads, engineers, and zonal officers, accompanied the inspection team and provided updates on the current status and challenges of the drain cleaning operations.
