Commissioner pays tribute to firefighters who lost their lives while saving lives of the citizens

In a solemn ceremony held at the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar, Commissioner of the corporation, paid homage to the courageous firefighters who lost their lives on April 14, 1944. These valiant individuals were battling a devastating fire at the Bombay docks, and tragically, 66 of them perished in the line of duty.

Marking the beginning of Fire Service Week, observed annually from April 14 to April 20 by the Government, Dr. Jakhar orchestrated a poignant event at the headquarters of the Fire and Emergency Department in Adharwadi. The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by firefighters, both in the past and present.

During the proceedings, Dr. Jakhar hoisted the Firefighter's flag, symbolizing the unwavering courage and unwavering dedication of these selfless individuals. The tribute extended not only to those who lost their lives in 1944 but also to all firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.

Deputy Commissioner Darhysheel Jadhav, Chief Fire Officer Namdev Chaudhary, along with other dignitaries from the Fire Department, graced the event with their presence. Their attendance underscored the profound respect for the fallen heroes and the indispensable role firefighters play in safeguarding communities.
