Mira-Bhayandar: A wave of concern has swept across residents of Mira-Bhayandar as multiple steel containers have allegedly been placed at prominent public spots without proper permission. Local BJP leaders have taken up the issue, demanding accountability from the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).
A container was clandestinely placed near the entrance gate of NG Estate in Mira Road. The location was previously used for Ganpati idol installations during the annual festival, BJP member Rajesh Singh Somvanshi said.
“We woke up to find a container suddenly placed next to our society gate, right opposite the Vodafone Gallery in Ward 19. This was done under the cover of night without any community consent,” Somvanshi said.
“I have sent written complaints and emails to the commissioner, and I'm seeking an official clarification on whether such containers are permitted by the civic body.”
Somvanshi, a former Shiv Sena (UBT) member who recently joined the BJP, further alleged that several such containers have been installed across the city by supporters of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction). He has demanded full disclosure of the permission process and whether the same opportunity is open to the public.
“If this is legal and part of a promotional campaign or social welfare initiative, then I too would like to apply and install a container under the same legal procedure,” he added.
Echoing Somvanshi’s concerns, BJP member Sanjay Dubey highlighted the presence of similar containers across various parts of Bhayandar West, especially in what he described as “Shiv Sena stronghold lanes.”
“There is a visible pattern, and it appears selective. Why are public spaces being taken over without a transparent process?” questioned Dubey.
Despite their inquiries, no official response has yet been received from MBMC at the time of filing this report.
