A 40-feet height gauge barrier, installed to prevent heavy vehicles from accessing the service road of Airoli Sector 3 to Thane-Belapur Road, collapsed suddenly during a bout of heavy rain. Fortunately, no vehicles were passing through the area at the time, averting any loss of life. However, municipal employees faced significant challenges in clearing the collapsed structure.
The incident occurred during intense rainfall in Airoli around 12:30 pm on 11th June, causing the iron arch placed along the railway track at Bharat Bijli to collapse. Officials from the Airoli division of the municipality, along with traffic police and Rabale police, swiftly responded to the scene. However, since the arch falls under the jurisdiction of the railway administration, efforts to contact railway authorities were unsuccessful. The absence of railway officials impeded cooperation in removing the collapsed structure.
Efforts to clear the debris using a hydra machine ensued, temporarily halting traffic along the affected road and leading to a traffic jam. Despite the challenges faced, authorities managed to clear the site, restoring normalcy to the area.
