Ulwe: Thousands of project-affected people (PAP) from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Palghar, and Nashik districts will hold a massive car and bike rally on June 24, to press for their demands to name the Navi Mumbai International Airport after Loknete DB Patil.
Organised by the Loknete DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport Naming All-Party Action Committee, the rally will coincide with the 12th death anniversary of the late leader. The rally is seen as a strong show of unity and determination by the PAPs who had given up their land for the airport project and have long awaited the official announcement of the name in Patil’s honor.
While the state government has completed all procedural formalities and the proposal remains pending with the Central Government, local villagers and supporters feel the delay is unjust and want to remind the authorities of their unfulfilled promise.
The Action Committee has urged all PAPs and community members to attend this important meeting and contribute to the campaign.
Leaders believe the show of strength will put pressure on the government to expedite the final naming process and officially dedicate the airport to DB Patil, who is revered by the local population for his contribution to farmers' rights.
