Navi Mumbai: A tragic series of accidents on Thane-Belapur Road near Turbhe Store has raised serious concerns about the prolonged flyover construction work in the area. In just 24 hours, two fatal accidents occurred involving pedestrians being struck by heavy vehicles, leading to public outcry over the potential dangers posed by slow-moving construction efforts.
On Friday, a 60-year-old man, Ramlal Prasad, lost his life after being hit by a container. Less than a day later, a 30-year-old man, Azharuddin Pathan, was fatally struck by another speeding container near a petrol pump close to Turbhe Store. Pathan, who resided in the area, died on the spot.
Construction of a flyover on Thane-Belapur Road at Turbhe Store has been underway for an extended period, progressing at a slow pace. Heavy vehicle entry is officially restricted on the Thane-to-Panvel stretch due to the ongoing work. However, heavy vehicles continue to speed through the area, endangering pedestrians who frequently navigate this stretch.
Just last month, another accident left a pedestrian with severe leg injuries. With two fatalities in the past 24 hours, local residents are calling for immediate completion of the flyover construction and a strict ban on heavy vehicles in the vicinity until the work is done.
