Thane: In response to the increasing heat, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has expanded its initiative to set up temporary water pitchers across 50 locations in the city. This initiative, in collaboration with various NGOs, aims to provide relief to citizens facing rising temperatures.

The first phase of the project involved setting up 25 water pitchers with the support of Yes Charitable Trust, JVM Charitable Foundation, and Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth. The second phase saw an additional 25 water pitchers established in collaboration with CREDAI-MCHI.

The initiative is part of a comprehensive heat mitigation plan developed last year by TMC, in association with the state government and the Council of Energy, Environment, and Water. The plan addresses the growing heat problem caused by urbanisation and aims to ensure public welfare during heatwaves.

TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao had earlier directed the expansion of this initiative, leading to the installation of more water pitchers this year. TMC Chief Environment Officer Manisha Pradhan confirmed that large water tanks and glasses have been placed at all 50 locations, with NGOs responsible for refilling them daily with clean drinking water.

New locations for temporary water pitchers include Kopri Bus Stop, CIDCO Stop, Khopat Rickshaw Stand, Jambhali Naka, RTO-Jail, Vandana ST Stand, Ghosale Lake, Cadbury Signal, Vrindavan Bus Stop, Manpada Chowk, Vasant Vihar Bus Stop, Shastri Nagar Naka, Diva Mahotsav Naka, and several others.

Earlier, water pitchers were also set up at Thane Station, Kopri Bridge, Asher IT Park, MIDC-Ambika Nagar, Kalwa Station Road, Wafa Park, and more, providing widespread access to drinking water across Thane.
